About Us

Thomas and Kathleen Chiaruttini, along with our two daughters Nina and Meghan like to call ourselves an Amsoil Family.

I myself, am a self-taught mechanic with more than thirty years experience doing everything from minor oil changes and brake jobs to complicated head gasket replacements. When it was just Kathy and I driving, taking care of our vehicles maintenance needs was not much of a problem, even with changing our conventional oil at 3,000 miles.

Fast forward a few years, Nina and Meghan are driving and have cars of their own. You can probably guess who inherited the job of maintaining their cars. At one point our family was operating five vehicles. At least once a week I was out in the driveway changing oil or some other maintenance issue. There had to be a better way.

Many years ago my brother mentioned Amsoil once or twice but I did not give it much thought. Back then, conventional oil and gas were cheap and we only had two vehicles to maintain. As you know now, fuel is pricey and oil changes are not getting any cheaper either.

After doing a lot of research, I decided to make the switch to Amsoil. All of our vehicles received Amsoil Synthetic motor oil and Amsoil universal transmission fluid. The difference was immediately noticed. The mileage in my car jumped from 30 to 33 mpg. Kathy’s car had a rough idle that went away with the change to Amsoil ATF. The girls do not check their mileage, but have said things like “I have more gas left when I go to Hagerstown and back.”

Besides giving our car the best protection possible, the time saved is the most important benefit for us. We change our oil twice a year now, cutting maintenance by more than 50%. The money savings would be next by not changing our oil so much. It also feels good knowing we are doing the environment a favor. Our family alone saves 72 quarts of oil per year that otherwise would need to be disposed of. If everyone would switch to Amsoil and extend their drain intervals as we have, it would have a huge impact on the amount of oil imported and the amount of oil that can end up having to be absorbed by the environment.

Earlier, I called our family an Amsoil family because we will always use Amsoil. When our girls get married and leave home, they will insist their husbands use Amsoil in their vehicles. The myth of changing oil at 3,000 miles will not be instilled in their beliefs as in most of us Baby Boomers, it would seem strange to them to have to change their oil more than twice a year.
